Mafikeng Road - retracing important events during the Anglo-Boer War, 1899-1901, the Mafikeng Road Safari Trail focuses on highlighting a cultural dimension to the beautiful landscapes which characterise the "Forgotten North West" country which made such a huge impression on people like Herman Charles Bosman. Traveling via places such as Broederstroom, Hekpoort, Rustenburg and Swartruggens, all important sites during the Anglo-Boer War, the safari route takes you to Groot Marico, for melktert, gemmerbier and mampoer. Continuing to Mafikeng via Kaditswene Ruins, Zeerust and Botsalano Game Reserve, to experience the abundance of plains game within the Mafikeng Game Reserve, home to the safari campsite, overlooking a pan. From this base the various sites of historical importance during the siege are visited, returning to the peace and tranquility of "big sky country" for sundowners. |
