FINAL RESULTS 10TH WORLD CARP ANGLING CHAMPIONSHIPS 1. The World Carp Angling Championships was held at Bamboesspruit in the Bloemhof Dam Nature Reserve from 23-26 October 2008 with the South African Freshwater Bank Angling Federation being the Host Federation. Fifteen nations participate in this event namely Austria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, England, France, Italy, Macedonia, Namibia, Portugal, Romania, Russia , Serbia, South Africa and Ukraine. 2. The championships results were announced at a prestigious prize giving function held at the Elgro Hotel in Potchefstroom on 26 October 2008. 3. The performance of the National Protea Team is the best ever by a National Team in the history of the championships. Over and above becoming the World Champions in both the Team and Individually Pairs Events, the Protea Team made a clean sweep in the individual pairs division by also winning the Silver and Bronze Medals. 4. Over the competition period of 72 hours (reduced to 70 hours due to a storm) the South African team has also rewritten the following World Carp Angling Championships Team statistical records: 4.1. It is the first time ever that a team is able to won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the individual pairs division 4.2. The South African championship points of 3, allocated for first places in Sector A (1 point), Sector B (1 point) and Sector C (1 point) is the best championship result points that could be achieved. The championship point of 3 could be equalized but not bettered. 4.3. The catch weight (bag weight) of 3 418.25 kilogram by the Protea Team is a new world record 4.4. The catch weight (bag weight) of 1,449.60 kilogram by GP Nel and Kobus van Loggerenberg is a new world record in the individual pairs division. 4.5. The number of fish caught by the Protea Team (1086 fish) and the pair combination of GP Nel and Kobus van Loggerenberg (424 fish) also constitute new world records. 4.6. Furthermore the Protea Team bettered the highest average weight per individual pair (1134, 417 kilogram) and the highest number of fish per individual pair (483.200 Fish). 5. The total catch weight of 18 725.33 kilogram and the number of 6 257 fish caught during the championships are also new championship records. This confirms the Hosting Nations claims that Bamboesspruit in the Bloemhof Dam Nature Reserve is one of the best, if not the best, carp angling venues in the world.
