Terrain
The terrain is typically flat or gently undulating with a gradual slope towards the dam. Calciferous rocky outcrops occur sporadically, particularly in the western and central sections.
Wildlife
There is a wide variety of small and large antelopes, with the main predator being the black-backed jackal. Birdlife on the reserve is very good and to present 256 species have been sighted. A number of reptiles and amphibians are also found here.
Activities
Angling, bird watching, game drives and hunting are available.
Day visitor facilities
The reserve is extremely popular for angling due to the success
rate of catches made. Open picnic sites with toilets and fresh
water are provided. There is a boat launch pad.
Accommodation facilities
A
group-camp complex consisting of:
Three self-catering, furnished chalets
Three dormitory type rooms of six beds each
An ablution block
A kitchen
A conference or function facility
Camping
sites with ablution block (wheelchair friendly)
are also available - showers,
toilets, hot water. No power points. Camp next to the water
and no bookings are necessary.
Bloemhof
is one of the best angling dams in the country, and
hosts International, National and Provincial angling competitions
on a regular basis.
A
hunting camp consisting of four chalets
and a lapa may be booked and hunting packages are available.
